Hello readers! I'm posting thsi chapter now because I'm facing a horribly busy month-end sort of weekend and I don't know if I'll get any time for myself to do writing or posting activities.

Author's Notes: Detectives James Chang and Eliza Austen are my characters. So are Lily and her brother, and Bridget, James’s girlfriend.

Bridget first appeared in FAKE First Year Together: A New Day, in Chapter 6. She was interested in Ryo, but later when she showed up at the station looking for Ryo, Dee managed to deflect her onto James instead.

Lily has appeared twice before in my FAKE stories. She was first introduced in Chapter 15 of A New Day when Ryo had lunch with Drake at a Chinese restaurant. Later she appeared about halfway through Slave to a Gladiator.

Driven (a Happy-belated Birthday fic for my pal lunasariel)

Hello Fake fans! I'm posting this at Dreamwidth initally and crossposting to LJ because I doubt LJ has finished righting their rich text debacle and I don't feel like wasting time reformatting everything. I don't even know if this is going to work properly anyway! It could be that when I crosspost, the formatting will get screwed up by LJ anyway. I'm hoping for the best.

Anyway, regular readers of my Live Journal will recall that lunasariel's birthday arrived at a busy time in my life and I couldn't write anything for her, even though I really, really wanted to. So I promised I would post something for her by the end of August. Hence this post.

I had originally written a completely different first chapter, but when I got around to doing the outline for that one, I realized it was going to turn into a long story-- maybe fifteen or sixteen chapters. I hesitated because I don't think I can commit to another brand new long story at this point in my life. So I banged off a new first chapter to a story that will be shorter. I think I can wrap this one up in about three chapters, unless I get carried away. (It's got Diana in it, so I just might!)

This is for Neengydot, whose birthday I missed way back in September. I recall thinking about birthday smut at that time, but I think I had too many assignments hanging over me at that time. Also, one of my biggest writing problems is an inability to be brief. Levity I can do. Brevity, unfortunately, can outrun me! Anyhow, this is my third attempt to write something short. It clocks in at only 1111 words.

A common cat complaint

I was roused from the warm, drifting tides of sleep this morning by an unmistakable and familiar sound-- that of a cat retching. The responsible half of me considered getting up to deal with it right then lest my husband wake up and step in it on his way to the bathroom, but the lazy half decided to go back to sleep and deal with the cat vomit later.

When I got up about an hour later, I searched for the puke puddle(s), but to no avail. I asked Fluff, but he just blinked sleepily at me and then led me hopefully to his dish.

Now I'm nervously wondering where and when I'm going to get a nasty surprise.

Chapter Eight: The Forms of Things Unknown

Rating: Not worksafe, but don't get your hopes up because there's only a teeny tiny bit of naughty activity in this chapter. I really had a lot of plot-ground to cover.
Spoilers: To Volume 7
Timing: Set in June, a month or so after book 7 ended. Dee and Ryo recently became a couple in May. FAKE First Year Together: A New Day left off on Sunday night. This chapter takes place a few days later on Thursday night and Friday afternoon.
Summary: Ryo is coming to terms with what it means to be a gay man in a straight world. He and Dee are also hunting the dangerous Lieutenant Abernathy...but who is hunting whom?

No, honest, I'm not on drugs...

First of all, I'd like to thank all the people who were kind enough to weigh in with their two cents on my previous post Two things I'm considering and need advice on. I haven't been able to answer everyone yet, but I'm going to make a point of doing that this weekend.

Here's an update on one of those two things. The laser eye surgery is a no-go.( still stuck with my glasses )

Slave to a Gladiator chapter 19

We've had a lot of rain where I live, recently. This is of course the rainy west coast of Canada, and please don't think I'm complaining. I can ride my bike in the rain, but not on snow and ice. I love winter. It's by far my favorite season. I would actually like it to be a little colder, but not cold enough to bring the aforementioned unbikable snowy and icy roads.

Some of you may also know that I'm somewhat of a boot collector. I love boots, all kinds of boots. I'm always looking for colored boots, like blue, green, or red. They're very hard to find, especially in a small city like mine. I have a purple pair, a red pair and a royal blue pair. I had a green pair but I stupidly left them at the gym two years ago and went home in my running shoes. Never saw them again, as you might imagine. But, over the years, I have accumulated a lot of boots.

Anyway, last weekend the nonstop heavy rain and pretty much my entire collection of boots had an unfortunate encounter.( a deluge to wash a way the sins of the boots )
